  “There’s something else.”

  “There is?”

I raised an eyebrow at Sebastian, wondering what he could possibly have to say to me.

“He called me from jail to put everything in motion,” Sebastian said. “He told me to contact your father and tell you what you needed to do.”

  “I remember.”

“But the last thing he said to me…”

  “What did he say?”

“He said that he knows you’re still going to school. He said that you’re close to graduating. He told me to tell you to focus on that. Forget about him. Forget about Ivory.”

“You know I could never do something like that.”

“I know. I tried telling him that. If you’re the ol’ lady he thinks you are, you’ll be there for him. But that’s what Roman himself would’ve wanted. He wants you to do this for yourself. You’re more important to him than himself.”

Sebastian fell silent as he stared at me to make his point. The entire bar was quiet. It was like I was all alone with nothing but the words Roman had left for me lingering in my head.

I closed my eyes to stop my emotions from getting to me. But all it did was squeeze a tear from the corner of my eye.

  Roman…

I wanted to be near him. I wanted to feel his embrace. I wanted to let him know that I would do anything to make him happy. I just… I just wanted to see him again so that I knew that he was all right.

“Go back to school,” Sebastian said. “That’ll make Roman happier than anything you could ever do.”

I opened my eyes. I nodded with a renewed determination building inside of me. My heart felt like it was thumping hard enough to leap out of my chest.

  “He’s right,” I said. “I’ll focus on school. That’s… That’s what’s best for me.”

  “That’s what I’m talkin’ about.”

Sebastian held his mug of beer up then took another thick gulp of it.

“What about you?” I asked. “You got any plans while Roman is serving his time?”

Sebastian looked off to the side like he was contemplating something.

“I remember when Roman and I first patched in. It was the five of us. Ol’ Murph was always hounding me about being a Devil…”

He looked down and rubbed the patch on his chest.

“…Roman was on-board from the start. I was president and he was my VP before all that shit went down. He always had my back, no matter what. We were in some fights with some mean motherfuckers. Roman never backed down. He took punches for me. He’d take a bullet for me if it ever came down to it.”

Sebastian turned to me, a sly smile forming on his lips.

“I have to do this,” he said.

“From what I’ve seen, there are a lot of clubs in this town,” I said. “You sure there’s room for another one?”

“That’s the thing about the Devils,” he replied. “There’s always a place in Ivory for us.”

“A club with two members. Is that a thing?”

That smile on Sebastian’s lips hadn’t gone away.

“All it takes is one Devil to raise a little hell.”

  Chapter 28

  MIA

  Seven months later…

I was looking forward to this winter break more than I ever had. Carrying a child and having to walk around campus was enough to tire even the strongest person.

After visiting my father, I told him I wanted to spend some time in Ivory. He didn’t protest because he already knew where my heart was. If anything, he encouraged me to do it. Considering he usually wanted me to spend most of my free time with him, it was strange behavior coming from him.

I didn’t think too much of it though. As soon as I arrived in Ivory, I settled in.

The desert town was colder than usual. The wet streets indicated I’d just missed a bit of snowfall. Sebastian invited me out to celebrate but I told him with a baby on the way, there wasn’t going to be much celebrating. All I wanted to do was relax. He offered me a hotel room, warning me about other places, so I had no choice but to accept.

I got to the hotel as quickly as I could. After a long drive down from the big city, all I wanted to do was collapse in my bed and rest my aching body.

The hotel bedroom was silent outside of my own breathing. I closed my eyes and rested my hands on my belly. I felt myself drifting off to sleep for just a moment then felt something against my palm.

I opened my eyes slowly and a smile came to my lips.

  “Kicking around, huh?”

I giggled to myself as I observed my stomach. The child inside of me was eager to get out.

“Can’t let mom get a bit of rest, can you?”

A sigh escaped my lips as I closed my eyes once again. I enjoyed the gentle thump against my palm.

Peace and quiet. Ivory was the only place in the world where I could truly feel like I was alone with my thoughts.

Even though I was so tired, my mind was still racing. Being in the town where I met him brought back all of the memories.

I remembered the first time I saw him. All of the muscles on his body. The ink on his skin. The intense stare of his blue eyes. The strong jaw that was clenched as he defiantly stood up for me. Even though he wanted no part of what he had to deal with, he did what he had to do.

I smiled softly at all of the wonderful memories I had with him, hoping that he would come back to me.

A door opened in the other room suddenly. My eyes shot open as I listened.

  What was that?

I pushed myself up on the bed and kept listening. There was nothing but I still didn’t feel at ease.

Then I heard something else. Footsteps approaching.

  “Shit,” I muttered to myself.

I got up from the bed and started walking toward the next room when he suddenly appeared in the doorway.

“Sorry,” the man said. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”

  Roman?

I closed my eyes. I thought I was dreaming. I shook my head as if trying to regain my senses but when I looked again, he was still there.

His dark hair was a little longer. His skin was a little more tan. He was dressed more plain than usual. Just a plain t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. But everything else about him was the same.

The scruff along his jawline. The ink on his skin. The intensity of those blue eyes I always saw when I thought about him. That soft smile on his lips.

  “Roman?” I said to myself.

He walked toward me and held his arms out.

  “Mia.”

I couldn’t hold back any longer. I rushed up and wrapped my arms tight around him. His strong embrace forced a flood of memories to wash over me. Everything that I’d been going through the past six months waiting for him had suddenly disappeared. Now all I could think about was how grateful I was to have him here with me.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I said as I looked up at him.

“Seabass got a room for me. I felt like surprising you.”

  “That’s a hell of a surprise. You’re out…”

“Back on parole,” he sighed. “I’m pretty surprised myself. They said someone put in a good word for me though. Some man in the big city who has a lot of sway apparently. Even with law enforcement…”

He smirked at me. I couldn’t fight back the smile, giggling as I thought about it.

“I’ll have to thank my father for that,” I said.

“I’ll have to do the same.”

Roman leaned down and kissed me deeply. His tongue tasted so familiar but brand new. His scent filled my nostrils and flooded my head. I sighed into his mouth, tugging on his lips with mine but he pulled away.

  “What’s wrong?” I asked.

He looked down and ran his hand over my breast. He kept moving down until his palm rested on my belly.

“How is our baby?” he asked.

  “Alive and kicking.”

Seeing Roman’s smile made my heart skip a beat.

“I’ve waited a long time for this,” he said. “To be with you. To be with our child. It felt like an eternity waiting to get out.”

  “You’re here now.”

  “Yes… Yes, I am.”

He leaned forward and kissed me again. He shoved his tongue into my mouth like he was trying to consume me. I giggled as I did my best to return the favor. I wanted him just as bad as he wanted me.

“Wait,” I said, pressing a hand to his chest.

  “What is it? What’s wrong?”

“I… I know you’ve waited for a long time for this. I don’t know if I can do it… I’m pretty worn out just walking around.”

  “Oh… Right…”

He looked down at my stomach and nodded.

“That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy one another’s company,” he said.

His eyes narrowed at me. The subtle smirk on his lips made my cheeks blush red with embarrassment. I felt like a schoolgirl all of a sudden.

“I guess you have a point,” I said, biting my bottom lip to stop from smiling too hard.

I worked to get his shirt off of him. I nibbled on his nipple and felt up his muscled chest.

He took my top off of me and unhooked my bra. My breasts had swelled along with my belly. Roman took a moment to appreciate them, cupping them in his hands while I licked up and down his hard body.

We started fumbling around with the rest of our clothes. I unbuckled his belt and zipped his jeans down, letting them fall to his ankles. He tugged my skirt down my knees and did the same to my panties. After pulling his underwear off, I crawled onto the bed with him. I giggled like it was the first time I’d ever been with a man before.

“Gentle,” I said. “Just being here with you is enough.”

  “It is,” he replied.

We moved on the bed next to the headboard and leaned up against it. I reached down and grabbed his throbbing cock while we made out. He returned the favor, running his long middle finger over my clit and making it swell.

This. This was enough to satisfy me. Tongues dancing. Lips wet from one another’s kisses. My hand gripped his dick. His hand deftly fingering me and rubbing my clit. I’d waited so long to be with him again that I could already feel it building up inside of me.

Roman freed his other hand and cupped one of my breasts. He moved his head down and started kissing my neck, trailing his lips down my body and sucking on my tits. I closed my eyes and sighed from how good it felt. The pleasure was pulsing through every inch of me. My skin tingled. Tiny little jolts of electricity made me shiver in place.

He worked a hand down and started pumping a finger into my folds gently. His dick vibrated in my hand as I started jerking him even harder.

No longer able to focus on kissing me, we stared at one another as we got closer to the edge.

I smiled at him. He grinned right back at me, showing me his beautiful white-toothed smile.

  “Fuck, babe… You’re gonna make me come…”

“Is that right?” I said, raising an eyebrow at him.

  “When I was locked up… I thought about you… Every night… I stroked myself thinking about you…”

“You don’t have to think about me…”

I sighed, trying to fight back my inevitable orgasm.

  “…You won’t have to stroke yourself. I’ll do that… for you…”

I spit on my hand, making his cock slick and easier for me to pump. A bit of his precum dripped out and made it even more satisfying in my grip.

I barely realized that I was panting so hard now. Roman had made me work up a sweat. I reached my other hand forward and pressed it to his hard abs to see that he was sweating just as much I was.

I was already getting there. Roman took the signals my body was giving him and started working his hand on me just right. His thumb rubbed against my clit while two fingers stimulated my wet insides, making me leak onto the sheets.

I pumped his cock furiously. I was desperate to make him come.

“Come for me,” I whispered into his mouth, my eyes locked on his. “I want to see your dick explode for me.”

“Come with me… Come with me, Mia…”

Hearing him say my name was enough to make me lose focus. My eyelids fluttered as I tried to keep them open. The heat in my stomach started to spread through the rest of me.

I’d thought about him for six months, pleasuring myself to the memories I made with him. Now I was making another one.

  “Roman… Roman, I…”

My mouth opened wide but nothing came out. Stifled breaths got caught in my throat. I stood on the edge of a cliff then slowly fell over.

My body shook violently as I started to come. Violent spasms forced me to shake on the spot. The wonderful feeling of my orgasm spread through the rest of me, my senses gone from me.

I kept pumping his cock through it all. His throaty grunt filled my ears and a sudden gush of his cum covered my hand. I kept my fist wrapped around him, letting his seed cascade down his shaft and over my fingers. His sticky semen made his long shaft slick and easier to stroke.

Being with Roman, having him here by my side… I’d been holding back for months. It was no wonder why I came so hard.

My orgasm relented and gave me back control of my body. I blinked my eyes open. Through blurry vision, I saw Roman sitting next to me. He breathed deep. His muscles were hard and covered in sweat. A load of cum painted his six-pack and dripped around his navel. I bit my lip, giggling at the sight of him.

“I’ve been holding that back for a long time,” he sighed.

  “You and me both.”

He leaned forward and kissed me, putting a cap on the moment I just shared with him. I pressed my forehead to his and just looked into his eyes.

  “I love you, Mia.”

He said it so suddenly that I almost didn’t know how to react. It didn’t matter what I did though. Looking into his eyes now, I knew that he meant it.

  “I love you.”

I whispered into his mouth and gave him another kiss.

Roman was alive and well. He was here with me.

It was good to be back in Ivory.

  Chapter 29

  ROMAN

  More than a month later…

It didn’t matter that Carlo Palazzo was the father of the woman I was in love with. I would’ve respected him regardless.

Just looking at his face, you could see all the shit he’d been through. All of the business decisions he’d made. All of the secrets he’d kept. All of the people he’d dealt with. The man had been doing this for decades. There was no indication that he couldn’t keep doing it.

He sat across from me at the dinner table. Even the way he ate seemed slow and calculated. Methodically cutting his food and putting it into his mouth like he wanted to savor each bite.

I didn’t say anything. I was never much for bullshit small talk. Even with a man like Palazzo, I wasn’t curious. His business was his business. He and I both knew that Mia was the only reason that we were even in the same room.

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you,” he said. “You and Mia spent a bit of time in Ivory.”

“It was hard for her to travel.”

“You don’t need to give me any excuses. As long as Mia and the baby are healthy, that’s all that matters.”

  “Then we’re in agreement.”

I took a sip of the wine on the table. The shit was sweeter than anything I’d had in a long time. I guess when you were drinking cheap liquor for most of your life, the fancy shit tasted better than it actually was.

“Tell me, Rock. What is it you do in Ivory?”

“I just got out a month ago,” I said.

“But you were doing something before then, weren’t you?”

Palazzo finally looked up at me. The man was probing me like the father that he was. I couldn’t blame him. Right from the start, he was only looking out for Mia.

  “I was a mechanic,” I said. “I made ends
meet. The money I got from Burke will be enough for me to get by.”

“But it’s not just about you any longer. There’s Mia. There’s the baby, too.”

“Right… That’s why I was looking into another business.”

  “Business?”

Palazzo arched an eyebrow. He was probably thinking about all the shit he just had to handle with Burke.

“Nothing like that,” I said. “An old friend is opening a place in Ivory. A pub. I’m investing in that.”

“Is that a sound investment, Rock?”

“The man who’s behind it has never made a bad investment. Not since I’ve known him. It’ll work. I know it will.”

Palazzo sighed a deep breath through his nose and nodded before turning his attention back to his plate.

“Perhaps you could use another investor,” he said. “Since Mia will likely be spending more time in Ivory, it wouldn’t hurt to have a bit of a foothold there.”

“If you’re interested in a small investment, I’m sure something can be arranged.”

  “Look into it.”

I cut at my steak and chewed, trying to distract myself from the awkward silence between us. It didn’t help that the dining room was so fucking big. I never imagined I would be sitting in the mansion of a made man, yet here I was. Dinner with a powerful Mafioso and I was trying to make him comfortable with me knocking up his daughter.

  “Palazzo,” I said.

  “Yes?”

“I know what you’re thinking. You look at me and you see the tattoos and the vest and the blue jeans. I’ve never worn a suit in my life.

“I don’t know what life is like for a Mafioso. I won’t pretend that the kind of shit MCs get involved with is anything like the mafia. But we do have one thing in common.”

  “And what’s that?”

“We both care about Mia. We’d both do anything for her. I know how much you love your daughter. She’ll never cry when she’s with me. She’ll never be hurt. She’ll have everything she’s ever wanted.”

I respected Palazzo but I wasn’t intimidated by him. I had to be blunt with him to get my point my across, regardless of who he was.

He stopped eating for a moment and stared at me.
