I pinned my hands down on the workbench and braced myself. I pulled my lips away just long enough to tell her.

  “Mia… I’m gonna fucking… I’m gonna fucking come, babe…”

“Do it… Give it to me… All of it…”

She tightened her legs around my waist. Her hands wrapped around my shoulders. Our foreheads pressed against one another, we stared hard at each other as I forced myself closer and closer to the edge.

  “Mia…”

I grunted her name between her lips as I finally lost control.

  “Fuck…”

My cock throbbed hard with a thick jet of cum. Feeling it spill into her made my knees buckle. I dug my boots in and held my ground as my cock fired more of my seed into her.

Mia leaned in close to me. Her warm breath on my cheek, she nibbled on my ear and whispered.

“That’s it… Give it to me… I want all of you… Make me feel it…”

I buried myself deep in her cunt, letting my cock empty as much as it could before I was completely spent.

I stayed inside of her, enjoying the wet warmth of her pussy. I breathed hard to try and fill my lungs with the air it needed. My body was dripping with sweat. My muscles ached from how hard I’d fucked her.

My cock fell out of her, slick with a combination of both of us on it. Mia hopped off the workbench and fell to her knees and polished me off. My dick had been worked over so bad that her tongue made me realize just how tender I was. A shudder shot through my spine but I stayed up.

Watching Mia work on me one last time was beautiful. But that’s not why I cared about her so much.

She was gorgeous. Something out of a dream that had come to this town and into my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better-looking woman. When she stood up and looked into my eyes, she knew that I saw more than that inside of her.

I saw a woman who was vulnerable. A woman who needed me by her side. I’d slept with more women than I could count. Every one of them I kicked out of my bed when I was done. They’d done their job.

Mia… Only fucking Mia made me want to do everything for her. Knowing that she was having my child only made me more determined.

“Mia… I’ll be there for you. No matter what happens.”

  “Roman, I—”

A phone started ringing. I looked down and saw her skirt vibrating on the floor.

  “Someone’s calling me,” she said.

Mia scrambled down to the ground and picked her phone out of her pocket.

“Shit,” she muttered. “It’s Arthur. What do I do?”

  “Answer it.”

She swallowed then nodded to me as she put the phone up to her ear.

  “H-hello? Y-yes… Yes, I’m here… What? How do you—Okay, okay…”

Her eyes widened with concern. Then she lowered the phone down and covered the receiver.

  “What is it?” I said.

“He wants to talk to you.”

“Me? How does he know that I’m with you?”

Mia and I stared at one another before she held the phone out to me. I kept my eyes locked on her as I put the phone to my ear.

  “Hello?”

  “Open up, Rock.”

  “What?”

“The garage. Open up the garage. I’m right outside.”

“Burke, I don’t know what you’re talking about—”

“I know you’re in your garage. There’s no point in lying to me.”

I kept staring at Mia, my jaw clenched as I tried to figure out what to do.

“Stop stalling, Rock. We have business to discuss.”

“I don’t have any business with you—”

“You’re fucking my fiancée. I think we have plenty of business to discuss.”

  Chapter 22

  ROMAN

I raised the garage door open. Burke stood motionless, his hands behind his back. A black SUV was parked right behind him. No doubt some of his personal security was just waiting to do something.

Burke always looked out of place in Ivory. Fancy suit. Fancy watch. Polished shoes. Combed hair and shaved face. He had a monopoly on the drug trade in Ivory and he looked the part.

That wasn’t enough to intimidate me. He was just another man.

And damn if it wasn’t strange that I felt a little sympathy for the motherfucker. I was fucking his fiancée. The bastard seemed to be taking it well though.

“What are you doing here?” Mia said as she marched forward right next to me.

“Is that any way to greet the man you’re engaged to?” Burke responded.

  “…I’m sorry. I—”

“Someone was gunning for me,” I said. “Again.”

“Of course,” Burke replied. “There are powerful people that aren’t happy about what I’m doing in Ivory. They’re trying to take my business down. They’ll be more than willing to take Mia hostage and hold her for ransom.”

Burke looked Mia up and down and nodded.

“Coming to Ivory only put her in danger,” he said.

“You’re blaming Mia for what happened?”

“She knows the danger of coming here. It doesn’t matter how many precautions she takes. People, the wrong people, know who she is. She shouldn’t be in Ivory.”

“I’m not a child!” she said. “I’m capable of taking care of myself. And I have protection. The same protection you hired for me.”

Burke turned to me. A sinister little smirk formed on the corner of his lips.

“Yes,” he said. “Protection. That’s what I hired you for, Rock. You went a little too far though. I suppose it’s tough to find good help these days…”

Burke was talking about Mia’s safety that I almost forgot that he’d just caught me fucking her.

“You assume I’m angry,” he said. “You think I’m mad because you’ve been sleeping with her. I’m not upset, though I’ll admit that I am a bit disappointed. I was hoping that our engagement would be a little more intimate. Our union could be something more.”

“You know that something like that will never happen,” Mia said. “You and my father arranged the engagement because you thought it was in my best interests.”

“Is it not? You’re already the sole heir to your father’s estate. But you’ll still be alone. Your father knows that nobody else can provide for you what I’m providing for you. He knows that I offer you safety and security so that you’ll never have to worry about anything else for the rest of your life. The deal I’ve made in Ivory is the last piece I need to turn my business into the empire that your father envisioned. And you, Mia…”

He slowly paced toward her. I could tell how tense she was from the way she balled her fists. Burke kept that half-grin on his face as he looked down at her.

“…You will get everything you’ve ever wanted.”

“You don’t know what I want,” she responded.

She gritted her teeth. Her jaw tense, Mia stared up at Burke unblinking.

“Oh, I know what you want,” Burke said as he took a step back. “You want him.”

He looked over at me. The motherfucker was always looking down his nose at people. You had to have that kind of attitude when you were in the business he was in.

“It’s a shame,” he said. “They say you can’t choose the ones you fall for. What is it, Mia? Is it the tattoos? Is it the leather vest with the silly little patch on it? Is it the bike? Is it the casual disregard for the police who patrol these streets?”

Burke shook his head at me. I would’ve popped him in the mouth right then and there but that wouldn’t have solved anything. Burke was playing it cool. I had to do the same.

“No matter,” he continued. “A fling. Something deeper. It’s of no consequence to our engagement, Mia.”

“You’re still planning on marrying her?” I said.

“Why wouldn’t I? Don’t you understand, Rock? This is about more than you. This is about more than just me or even Mia. There’s a bigger picture here. We’re all p
ieces to a puzzle. That’s why I’m willing to compromise.”

  “Compromise?”

Burke paced back and forth in front of us, his head down as he spoke.

“People will undoubtedly think less of me for even offering this but I see that there’s no other way,” he said. “The heart wants what it wants, as they say.”

He raised his head up and stopped moving.

“I’ll allow these dalliances between you two,” he said. “I don’t care who Mia sleeps with. My concern was never getting into bed with Mia, though it would have been a nice bonus, I’ll admit. No, this marriage has always been one of a consolidation of power. Mia and I will be married and the Palazzo family will continue to reign through her. And I will do my part to add to that empire. You…”

He looked at me, examining me like he always did. I stared back at him and stood my ground.

“…You can do whatever you want with her. I don’t care. Have your fun.”

“Why would I agree to something like that?”

“Why wouldn’t you?” Burke said with an obnoxious chuckle. “You have nothing to offer Mia. She could never be with a man like you. Look in a mirror, Rock. You’re an ex-con in a defunct motorcycle club. I lined your pockets. I gave you the comfortable lifestyle you’re enjoying right now.”

“You can’t be serious,” Mia said.

Burke kept staring at me, seemingly ignoring her.

“You know that I’m right,” he said to me. “You’ll never be anything more than what you are now. I can provide for Mia in a way that she deserves. Do you disagree?”

I didn’t say anything. I shifted my eyes away from him, looking off to the side.

  I can’t do this…

“I’m not stopping you from being together,” he said. “You can see each other as often as you like. I’ll provide personal security to make sure that she’s always watched over. She’ll always be safe. Tell me I’m not wrong, Rock.”

I turned to Mia and looked into her eyes. I could see how torn she was. I would’ve done anything for her. I would’ve sacrificed myself if it came to that.

“Tell me you can provide for her the way I can.”

  No… I won’t…

I shook my head at Burke.

“No,” I said. “I won’t allow Mia to just marry you. It doesn’t matter that it’s just a front for a business arrangement you made with her father. Mia and I would never truly be together if I accepted your deal. That’s not what she wants.”

  “I see…”

Burke let out a deep sigh. He appeared defeated but for only just a second.

“That’s what I thought you’d say,” he said. “The strong and noble ex-convict looking to make things right. You’re so sure that everything will work itself out. Love will always find a way. Not this time.”

“What are you talking about?” I said.

“When is the last time you spoke to your parole officer, Rock?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. Burke looked like he was trying to hold back a grin.

“Yes, I believe the last time was back in the big city, shortly after you got out,” he said. “You had a steady job working at some shitty dive bar. It wasn’t the classiest job but it was honest work.”

Burke took a step toward me and looked me right in the eye.

“Does your parole officer know you came to Ivory? Does your PO know you punched out a man your first night here? A man with your propensity for violence… I can’t imagine they’ll look too kindly on that… I’m sure that would be a violation of your parole.”

“Are you threatening me?” I said.

“It’s not a threat,” he said. “I’m just stating the facts.”

He took a step back from me and looked at Mia. She’d been silent this whole time. It was taking everything in me to stop from choking the motherfucker on the spot.

“And you,” he said to her. “What would your father think? Ending our engagement so you could go running off with some biker. What would you say to him? That you admired his tattoos? That he’s a good mechanic and his bike runs smoothly?”

“Roman is more than that,” she said. “I know who he is. I know what kind of man he is.”

“Maybe. But could you convince your father that he’s more than the ex-con that everybody else sees him as? Think about it…”

She closed her eyes as he started moving toward her.

“…Telling your father that you don’t want to marry the man that he hoped you would marry. That all of his work to provide for you was thrown away so you could be with a man who has nothing.”

Mia started breathing deep breath, trembling more and more.

“Imagine the look on your father’s face. He’s not getting any younger. It would break his heart—”

  “That’s enough!” I shouted.

Burke smirked then turned back to me.

“Watch your damn mouth,” I said.

“I think I’ve made my point,” he sighed.

He took a step back from us and held his hands out.

“That’s my offer,” he said. “I think it’s more than fair, given the circumstances. I can provide for you, Mia. That’s what I want to do. That’s what your father wants. That’s what Rock himself wants.”

Mia and I turned to one another. Her innocent stare reminded me of just what I was willing to do for her. I would do anything to put her heart at ease.

“You don’t have to make your decision now,” Burke said. “The wedding is not until next week. For now, I’ll suggest something that we can all agree on.”

  “And what’s that?” I said.

  “Mia, come with me.”

  “No,” she said. “I don’t—”

“I know you don’t want to come with me. But as long as you’re in Ivory, you’re in danger. Even Rock would agree with that. I don’t have any business to attend to. There’s no need to have the personal security that Rock once provided for you.”

Burke spun on his heel and walked over to his SUV.

  “I’ll be waiting for you.”

Mia walked up to me and wrapped her arms around me. I put my arms on her and gently held her close.

“What do I do?” she whispered.

She sobbed softly against my chest. I closed my eyes, trying to deal with the anger and frustration that had been boiling inside of me this whole time.

“What do I do?” she repeated.

I didn’t have an answer for her. I couldn’t just kill Burke. Not when he could provide her the protection I knew she needed while she was in Ivory. It pissed me off that I agreed with the motherfucker.

  Fucking bastard…

“There’s no other choice,” I said.

She slowly pulled away from me.

“You have to go with him.”

  “What? You don’t mean—”

“I’m not telling you to marry him. I’m not telling you to stay by his side. But you heard what he said. I can’t ask you to let your father down.”

  “Roman—”

She put her head down. We’d both come to the same realization.

“You can stay with me,” I said. “I can protect you while you make your decision. You know I’ll do anything for you. I’d point my own gun to my head and squeeze if it meant keeping you safe.”

“I know. But I can’t ask you to do that. Not after everything you’ve done for me.”

Despite the circumstances, Mia somehow found a reason to smile. I’d never felt more determined than I was right now.

“I’ll figure something out,” I said.

  “I know you will.”

I leaned forward and kissed her. I savored her taste as much as I could.

  This isn’t the last time.

I could’ve spent the rest of my life like this. I could’ve died a second later and I’d still have a smile on my face.

But the moment didn’t last as long as either of us wanted.

Mia pulled away from me and turned around so she didn’t ha
ve to look at me. I watched her get into Burke’s ride and drive off into the distance.

I would get to her. I would solve all of her problems. Nothing would stop me from staying by her side.

I knew I couldn’t do it alone though. I pulled my phone out and called the only man I could depend on.

  Chapter 23

  MIA

Arthur acted like nothing was wrong as he ate his food. His nonchalant demeanor wasn’t enough to distract me from all of the things going on in my head.

I turned to the side and saw some of the personal security he had lined up. Nobody could get anywhere near us. I sighed a soft breath as I turned my attention to the plate in front of me.

“I know you’ve been through a lot,” Arthur said as he cut himself a forkful of his late dinner. “But you should really eat something. There’s no point in letting this food go to waste.”

  “I’m not hungry,” I responded.

“At least have something to drink. A little red wine. The alcohol will put you at ease.”

I looked down and wrapped my hands around my stomach. Roman being the father of my child just made me wish even more that I was with him right now.

“You don’t have to worry about anybody coming after you,” he said. “Not in here. I’ve given the owner enough money to make sure that nobody will be allowed inside. He didn’t ask for much. People in Ivory don’t have much business savvy…”

The restaurant was silent except for the sound of Roman’s silverware against his plate. I watched him stuff his food into his mouth and chew it softly. It was so quiet that I could hear him swallow. He gulped a glass of his wine down then held up a piece of chicken on his fork.

“You don’t know what it was like growing up for me,” he said as if I was listening to him. “I know you don’t care to hear the story but I always have to tell myself.

“I never knew my father. Never knew my mother either. I bounced around from foster home to foster home. I dropped out of school because I didn’t see much in it. Nobody cared that I left.

“Ended up getting involved with a dealer. I didn’t think much about it. A little weed. Harmless stuff to put some money in my pockets.”

He kept gazing at the food on his fork. It was as if he were no longer aware of what he was doing.
