“Nothing,” I said as I turned back to Jon. “Let’s just get out of here. I’m ready to go home.”
Chapter 14
ANNA
I watched as the water flowed down into the drain. All of the stress and exhaustion of the day was being washed away.
I pressed my head against the tiles and just let the water continue to pour down on me. The feeling of the water was all I wanted at the moment.
The incident with the Corps was already bad enough. Spending time in the interrogation room with Lieberman only gave me even more to think about.
I didn’t say a word to Jon after we left the police station. I stripped off my clothes and got into the shower as quickly as I could. I just wanted to get away from everything. I wanted to get away from everybody.
I was so distracted by my thoughts that I didn’t notice Jon standing right next to the shower. I remained silent as he opened the door and stepped inside.
“Hey.”
He whispered to me and put a hand on my shoulder. The water still pouring over me, I leaned forward against his hard, bare body as he held me in his embrace.
“It’s all right. You’re safe now. I’m here.”
Leaning up close to Jon, I believed every word he said. Being in his arms was enough to make me forget about everything.
I gently pulled away from him, my face still pointed at the ground. I watched as the blood started to circle down the drain. My eyes trailed to see the water washing the red away from his knuckles.
He was giving me an intense stare when our eyes finally met. The way he looked at me… It was like everything was right in the world. He was so handsome. His muscular physique with nothing but his tattoos to cover him filled me with the wrong kind of thoughts. Right now, they were the right ones.
I moved forward and pressed my lips to his. The shower hissed but it wasn’t loud enough to drown out the loud sound of our kisses.
“I wanna forget about what happened,” I whispered into his mouth. “Make me forget.”
Our kiss became deeper. His tongue slid into my mouth. I tasted him as the water continued to run through my hair. I wrapped my hands around his head and pulled him closer.
He trailed a hand down my body and squeezed my breast. I gasped into his mouth as he continued to move his fingers down my wet body. When he found my clit, he rubbed me with the precision that I’d first felt all those years ago.
Our tongues danced together in a sloppy union as he rubbed me. I wrapped my hands around his neck and braced myself. The wonderful feeling spread from my core and pulsed through my body. He was doing everything he could to make me forget. All I wanted now was to share this moment with him.
I reached down and found his cock. It twitched in my palm as I stroked him. I was trying my hardest to please him just the way he was satisfying me.
My folds were aching for him at this point. Every inch outside of me and inside of me was soaking wet. It was getting harder and harder for me to focus. I pulled my mouth away from his because I couldn’t kiss him. All I could do was try to breathe.
My eyes shut tight. My breaths were short. Stifled whimpers escaped from me as I primed his cock with my palm.
Jon didn’t say a word. He just breathed hard through his nose. He was doing everything he could to please me, so I knew he would do everything I asked of him.
I leaned forward and kissed him again.
“Fuck me,” I whispered into his mouth. “Fuck me—”
Before I could finish, he grabbed my hips and spun me around in the shower. I pressed my hands on the bathroom tiles and put my head down. The water continued to pour over me as my hair hung down the sides of my head.
I looked down at the drain and enjoyed the feeling of his hands on my hips. He squeezed his grip tight on me. His cock pressed against my folds.
“Ahh…”
I groaned softly in ecstasy as he slowly started to plunge himself into me. A thick, deep stroke filled me up completely. My mouth hung open but nothing came out. All of my moans were caught in my throat.
I reached forward and turned the knob. The water got hotter and more steam filled my shower.
Jon kept pounding me from behind as the water continued to cascade on top of me. The wet sound of my ass bouncing against his hilt was so loud.
“Oh… Jon…”
I whispered his name. It was the only thing I could get out from how good it felt.
I was having trouble standing up straight. My knees were buckling. My toes were curling as I tried to stay in my place. Jon tightened his grip on me and kept me in my position, ravaging me from behind until I knew I couldn’t take it much longer.
I pressed my forehead against the tiles in front of me so I could reach down with my free hand. I found my swollen clit and rubbed myself. My entire body was wet but I could feel the fluids leaking out of me.
Jon started working even harder. He drove his cock into me with such hard strokes that I thought I would break. I rubbed my clit furiously until I couldn’t take it.
My orgasm just in sight, my mouth opened wide as I cried out.
“Jon… Jon, I’m gonna come… I’m gonna…”
I didn’t finish as my orgasm slammed into me. My knees trembled. I nearly slipped and fell on the wet tiles beneath me but Jon held me in place.
I rubbed myself as I came hard against him. Waves of pleasure pulsed from my stomach and spread through the rest of me. Involuntary spasms made me tremble. My mouth hung open but nothing came out.
Jon was thrusting into me furiously the entire time. He was pounding so quickly that I knew he would reach the same end as me. Suddenly, he shoved into me and held his cock in place. I tightened around him as I felt his cock throbbing against my insides. Thick spurts of cum splashing against my walls only made my own orgasm that much more satisfying.
We came together in the shower. I wanted the feeling to last forever. But as my senses slowly returned to me, I realized I was back where I was.
I was in the shower with Jon. The water was running through my hair and all over my body. But it wouldn’t be enough to erase all of the thoughts I had running through my mind.
I sighed a deep breath and regained my composure. I turned around and gave Jon a deep kiss. I smiled softly at him and he did the same.
We finished cleaning each other off in silence. I had so much running through my mind.
He stepped out of the shower first. I waited a few moments before finally getting out and drying myself off.
It was late in the evening. After everything that happened, I barely had enough energy to move. I dressed comfortably and made my way out into the living room.
Jon was sitting on my couch waiting for me. I collapsed on the seat next to him and rested my head on his chest.
“How are you feeling?” he asked.
“Fine,” I sighed. “That shower helped a lot.”
“Just the shower?”
“Well, that other stuff helped, I suppose…”
I giggled and playfully slapped him across the chest.
I would’ve been happy just sitting there, resting with him. But I knew that I couldn’t.
I sat up straight and looked at him.
“We have to talk,” I said.
“I know.”
His blunt response made me smirk but only for a second. I looked away from him and started twiddling my fingers.
“I was in the interrogation room with that woman.”
“Jane Lieberman.”
“She’s a federal agent.”
“Yeah, she is,” Jon sighed.
“What’s she doing here? Why would a government agent be in Ivory?”
I turned my head up and looked into his eyes. He and I both knew the answer. I just wanted to see if he would tell me.
Jon didn’t respond immediately though. I shook my head when he hesitated.
“She said it has something to do with the Chinese,” I said. “You’re getting involved with the Triads.
And now these guys, this… Corps… They’re out for revenge.”
“Is that what you think is happening?”
“That’s what she told me.”
“And do you believe her?”
“Dammit, Jon!”
I couldn’t hold back my frustration any longer. I sighed a deep breath and looked away from him, trying my best to maintain my composure.
“I just want the truth,” I said. “Can you at least tell me that?”
I slowly looked back at him. Jon gave me an intense stare.
“You want the truth?”
“Yes.”
“You already know the truth.”
“What are you saying?”
“You knew the truth back when we first met. When you were still in high school, you knew what kind of a man I was. When you left five years ago, you knew what kind of a man I was. When you were out there, thinking about me, you knew what kind of a man I was. And now that you’re back, looking at me, you know what kind of a man I am.”
He was right.
I couldn’t expect Jon to change. He was who he was. Nobody, not even me, would be able to change that.
I shifted my gaze toward the patch on his chest. His name was proudly emblazoned below the logo. That skull looked so innocuous but I knew it was so much more. It was everything Jon took pride in.
I reached out and ran my fingers over the patch.
“You’re a good man,” I said. “I know you are. Deep down inside, you’re always trying to do what’s right. I don’t care about how many men you’ve beat up or killed. You’re a good man, a just man.”
“I care about you, Anna. You’re the first woman I’ve ever been with. You’re the only woman I’ve ever cared about. When you left, you don’t know how much I missed you. It was like a part of me was missing. When you came back, and I laid eyes on you… It was like my life was complete again.”
He leaned closer to me. I looked away from him but I could feel his eyes on me.
“I know you care about me,” he said. “I know that I’m the only man you’ve ever loved.”
“You’re right.”
I said it without hesitating.
“You’re the only man I’ve ever loved. I tried getting over you. I’ve been all over the world. I’ve slept with different guys. I convinced myself that they could replace you. But they weren’t half the man you were. None of them could fuck me like you do. None of them were capable of what you’re capable of.”
My fingers continued trailing along the patch on his chest.
“It’s like this thing makes you seem invincible,” I said. “It’s as if there’s nothing that can stop you.”
“Nothing can stop me. As long as you’re with me, you don’t have anything to worry about.”
I looked back up at him. I swallowed to wet my suddenly dry throat. I shook my head at him.
“You were there for me,” I said. “But you weren’t there fast enough.”
“What are you saying?”
“Jackie is in the hospital. That poor woman… She was innocent and those guys roughed her up.”
“Anna, I’m sorry—”
“Maybe she’s right. Maybe… Maybe it’s best that we don’t spend time around each other.”
“Anna—”
“Please.”
I reached my hand up to his face and caressed his cheek. I didn’t want him to say another word. If he said anything else, I knew that my emotions would get the best of me.
“At least let me stay here with you. Tonight. Just one night. Just to make sure you’re safe.”
I knew I couldn’t be around him. As long as I was involved with Jon, the shelter would never be safe. People like Jackie would be in danger because of me.
But I still felt safe. Despite everything that happened, I wanted him by my side.
“Tonight,” I said. “Just tonight.”
Jon leaned back in his seat. I rested my head against his chest and closed my eyes. The smell of his leather vest filled my nostrils. It was like being a teenager all over again.
Now wasn’t the time for that though. The emotions I had when I was younger couldn’t dictate my fate. I had to let Jon go. It was time for both of us to move on from each other. It was the only way I could keep people like Jackie safe.
Chapter 15
JON
I let the smoke linger in my lungs longer than I usually did. I gulped a shot of whiskey before finally sighing out all of the smoke in a slow, deep breath.
I wasn’t one for alcohol and tobacco in the middle of the day. I didn’t give a shit now though. Nothing anybody else could do or say could get me out of the funk I was in.
“Hey, there, Ghost!”
I didn’t pay attention to the slut that took a seat at the bar next to me.
“What you got goin’ on today? You busy?”
I could feel her eyes on me. Stephanie was eyeballing me like I was a piece of meat. A girl like her had intentions and didn’t hesitate to make them clear. That was if her skirt and top didn’t make it already obvious enough.
I took another puff of my cig and stared straight ahead at the bar in front of me.
“You look like you’re in a bad mood,” she whispered. “I could do something for you—”
She put a hand on my arm and I immediately pulled it back.
“That’s right,” I said, finally turning to her. “I am in a bad mood. So you’d best be on your way.”
That slutty smile on her lips disappeared.
“Okay…”
Stephanie rolled her eyes as she got up from her seat. As soon as Stephanie was gone, another voice I wasn’t interested in listening to replaced her.
“I’ve never seen someone blow Steph off like that,” the woman next to me said.
“That’s because she’s usually the one doing the blowing. She’ll land on her feet. Or her knees. Whatever it is she does.”
Michelle took a seat next to me. I stared ahead at my empty shot glass.
“I told you,” she said.
“Don’t start—”
“No. You need to hear this from me, Jon.”
I sighed knowing that there was no way I could stop Michelle from droning on like she always did. She always had to be the wisest person in the room. If you conceded it to her, she wouldn’t fucking shut up about it.
“Anna wasn’t built for this,” she said. “That’s why she left Ivory in the first place. To get away from the club. To get away from you.”
“That wasn’t what she wanted though.”
“Wasn’t it? She was gone for five whole years.”
“Five years… And now she’s back.”
I turned and looked at Michelle. Garnet’s old lady narrowed her eyes at me, a slight smirk on her face because she knew I could only see things my way.
“She left,” I said. “She left but she came back.”
“And you think it’s because of you? You think it’s because of the club?”
“It doesn’t matter why she’s back. All that matters is that she is.”
“It does matter. She’s here because Ivory is her home. I grew up in this town the same as her. I know what it’s like. This town has a hold on you. I haven’t been to the places she has but she would never be able to replace Ivory.”
I put my cigarette out in the ashtray in front of me and stared at it. I was through trying to reason with Michelle.
“I care about her,” I said.
“I know you do.”
“And she cares about me.”
“Sometimes that doesn’t matter. Sometimes you just have to let people go.”
Michelle put a hand on my shoulder.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,” she said. “Being an old lady is the hardest thing in the world. It’s harder than wearing the patch itself. You might think you’ve got a tough job living up to the standards but I’ve got standards to live up to, too.”
“You think Anna’s not capable? You thi
nk she’s not strong enough to stand by my side?”
“If she was, she wouldn’t have left.”
I sipped on the empty shot glass just to distract myself.
“You two care about each other,” she said. “If you really care about each other, you’ll know that it’ll never work between you two. You’re the vice president of the Black Reapers. If she has to stand by your side, she has to face all of the responsibility that you do.”
“How do you do it? How does Katrina do it? How does Gina do it? Every patch in this club has an old lady. What makes you so special?”
I turned toward Michelle. She was still staring intently at me. It almost looked like she felt sorry for me.
“I see the way she looks at you,” she said. “I can see it in her eyes. She’s not just looking at you. She’s looking into you. She’s trying to see something that isn’t there.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
“She thinks you can be some honest man living an ordinary life in this town. But wearing that patch means you’ll never be able to rest easy. There’ll always be a burden you’ll have to shoulder.”
She reached her hand forward and dug her finger into the patch on my chest.
“You have responsibilities,” she said. “Not just to you. Not just to the other members. You have a responsibility to everybody who came before you.”
“It doesn’t have to be that way. I don’t have to choose between her or the patch—”
“Where is she now? It’s barely been a week and she’s already trying to distance herself from you. She’s already gotten herself into trouble. Not because of anything she did but because of the club. All she had to do was be around you.”
Even though Michelle was right, I wasn’t interested in listening to her any longer. Maybe it was because she was telling me some shit that I just didn’t wanna hear.
Michelle knew how bothered I was by it though.
“Just give her some space,” she said. “From what Declan is telling me, you’ve got bigger problems than that.”
“What did Garnet say?”
“Why don’t you ask him yourself? I think he’s planning on calling a meeting pretty soon.”
I looked to the side and saw Garnet leaving his office.
